It was a perfect day. The sunrise was gorgeous. The tour guide was very informative about the island and was careful to give us directions as we were traveling. It was a lot of fun but be warned it is a very cold wait at the top. Wear lots of layers. The bikes are made for the heavy braking going down the mountain. Not a lot of pedaling is needed as it is almost all downhill. Motor cycle helmet provided and safety emphasized.

We thoroughly enjoyed the very early morning trip to the top. Marlin and Jackie (May have the name wrong) were hilarious! They gave a great historical tour up the volcano while making sure we knew how to get back down safely. One caution...the road is very twisty, so if you are prone to motion sickness, I suggest you take a couple of Bromine before you start! The sunrise was beautiful and even included Hawaiian chanting compliments of a US Park service ranger. The ride down was so much fun. You can go as fast or slow as you desire. This was the big advantage of doing a self-paced ride. We stopped at the recommended donut shop on the way down and it was delicious. This was the highlight of our week in Maui!
