Stop At: Al Khor, Al Khor

Also spelled Al Khawr means "sea on threesides" in Arabic. Older than Doha but far smaller in size. Al Khor is located an easy 50 kilometres to the north of Doha. It used to be the center of the pearling industry in Qatar but lost its importance after the introduction of cultured pearls. It now boasts a scenic harbour where you can find traditional fishing dhows, a corniche leading to mangrove colonies and a museum showcasing the fishing, pearling and dhow building industries.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Al Thakhira Beach, Al Khor Qatar

The mangroves colony is not only a major tourism product for Qatar but an important natural environmental resource for Qatar. It provides a natural habitat and a sanctuary for birds, fish and other animals as well as prevent coastal erosion.

The level of attractions in Qatar is moderate. however we had a fine day due to our driver: Ibrahim Said was more a host than a driver. He told us so many interesting things about his country and his people, he was very polite and respectful. The large SUV was very fine. Thanks again from Germany! Ulrich and Katharina

This was not a particularly interesting tour. We didn't learn a lot. Your time would be better spent at the Museum of Islamic Art or the National Museum of Qatar.

There's not a lot to see in Qatar, it is a small, dusty desert sheikdom that is currently a very large building site. Nevertheless our guide Shabir did a great job showing us the north of the country from fishing harbour to desert fort in a comfortable Mercedes 4WD.

Perfect trip if you have a long layover. Our guide was lovely, pity I was full of flu so I felt a bit rough.

Private tour of North Qatar was a wonderful experience. We were happy with the places we visited and our guide Shabir was pleasant and accomodating. He even bought us breakfast --sandwiches and tea. Some of our favorite stops were the purple island, AlJamil village and the Fort. All in all a great tour! Worth the trip!
