The Hardangerfjord is the fourth longest fjord in the world, and the second longest fjord in Norway. The fjord starts at the Atlantic Ocean about 80 kilometres (50 mi) south of the city of Bergen. The fjord stretches 179 kilometres (111 mi) from the Atlantic Ocean into the mountainous interior of Norway along the Hardangervidda plateau. If the Sognefjord is the King of the Norwegian fjords, then the Hardangerfjord is the Queen.

The pretty village Rosendal is located on the southern shore of the Hardangerfjord and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) straight west of the vast Folgefonna glacier. The village is especially known for the Barony Rosendal, a historic estate located in the village.

The Barony in Rosendal is the only one of its kind in Norway and a major attraction.
