Lingaraja Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and is one of the oldest temples in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha. The temple is the most prominent landmark of Bhubaneswar city and one of the major tourist attractions of the state. The Lingaraja temple is the largest temple in Bhubaneswar. The central tower of the temple is 180 ft tall. The temple represents the quintessence of the Kalinga architecture and culminating the medieval stages of the architectural tradition at Bhubaneswar. The temple is believed to be built by the kings from the Somavamsi dynasty, with later additions from the Ganga rulers. The temple is built in the Deula style that has four components namely, vimana, jagamohana, natamandira and bhoga-mandapa, each increasing in the height to its predecessor. The temple complex has 50 other shrines and is enclosed by a large compound wall. Bhubaneswar is called the Ekamra Kshetra as the deity of Lingaraja was originally under a mango tree as noted in Ekamra Purana, a 13th-century Sanskrit treatise.

Locally famous as 'Love Temple', Rajarani temple is situated in the Odisha state capital city Bhubaneswar. Built-in 11th century CE, the Rajarani Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is referred in the traditional Sanskrit texts as Indresvara Shiva Temple. The temple is known for its sculptural excellence, a profusion of ornaments, exuberant architectural features, and multiple scrollworks. The present name Rajarani has been derived from the local sandstone used to build it.

Dhauli Hills - One of the popular landmarks of Odisha's Buddhist heritage is Dhauli International Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa), located 8 km south on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. With the beautiful Daya River lying in the proximity, you have the ancient land of Dhauli that lets you know about the enormous battles that were fought here, the Kalinga War of 261 B.C. Buddhism for which Dhauli is so well known played a crucial role in transforming King Ashoka to a diehard Buddha devotee who eventually followed the preaching of Buddha for the rest of his life.

Dhauli is famous for the edicts related to Buddhism that were composed of the Brahmi script and used Prakrit language. One can spot a series of rock-cut monuments at this hill. Numerous artifacts tell us about the urban settlement at this place in the 3rd century B.C. One finds the image of intricately carved elephant and close to this elephant, you have a stupa.

An enormous temple in Dhauli is the Dhavaleswar Temple, which is much frequented by the visitors. In addition to this, you have the Bahirangeswar Temple Siva Temple as well as the Ganesha Temple that together add to the religious aspect of this place.

Moreover, Dhauli also has another attraction named as the Shanti Stupa whose foundation was laid by the Japan Buddhist Sangha. Therefore, Dhauli is a worth visiting place by the diehard devotees of Lord Buddha.

The State Museum displays a rich and exhaustive collection of stone inscriptions, archaeological artifacts, and tools that have been in existence since the stone and bronze age. Copper plates, patta manuscripts, paintings and musical instruments of Odisha can also be found in the museum.

The State Museum is a great way to understand the movement and evolution of the state through the centuries. The main attraction of the museum are manuscripts made of bamboo leaf, handcrafted paper, ivory, tree barks and palm leaves. You will also be shown ancient illustrated manuscripts.

The caves well-known for their religious importance in the Jain culture, the caves are believed to have been carved out during the reign of King Kharavela and were initially carved out to serve as residential cells for Jain monks.
