Bran Castle, Romanian Castelul Bran, medieval stronghold in the Transylvanian Alps (Southern Carpathian Mountains) of Brașov county, central Romania. Popularly—if inaccurately—identified with the fictional Castle Dracula, Bran Castle is one of Romania’s top tourist attractions.Bran Castle is often associated with the fictional vampire Count Dracula. The Romanian castle resembles Castle Dracula, as described in Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (1897), in that both stand on rocky precipices and command spectacular views. But Stoker, an Irish writer, is not known to have ever visited Transylvania. Moreover, Vlad the Impaler (Vlad III Dracula), the historical personage most closely identified with Stoker’s Dracula, never ruled Bran Castle, although some sources claim that he was held prisoner there for two months. Vlad, grandson of Mircea the Old, was a 15th-century voivode of Walachia.

Stop At: Rasnov Citadel, Unirii Square no. 12, Rasnov 505400 Romania

Râșnov Fortress is one of the most beautiful and well maintained fortresses in Romania. There are 3 ways to reach the inside of the fortress. And yes, it’s quite important to reach it since it’s surrounded by 150 m deep abysses .Well inside these beautiful stone walls lay tight and winding streets, just the way we like them You can find all kinds of small shops selling medieval artifacts. Most of them are very nice, no kitsch. It’s a real pleasure to have a walk on these streets defended by these walls which are painted in an amazing yellow colour. I would call this color Râșnov – yellow This colour makes a perfect match with the slightly old orange tiles on the roof tops. It’s a true medieval experience!

Marty A

We were picked up on time by our guide, Dan who took us on a fantastic guided tour of Dracula’s castle and the “peasants” citidel. Dan was super knowledgeable and knew a lot of local lore. He’s also got some great tips on where to eat and drink in Braşov after your tour. Much recommended!
