Group Tour

We will meet at our house, a yellow airy oasis in the middle of hustle and bustle of Cali.

We will begin the evening sharing a platter of traditional appetizers which usually includes carimañolas, aborrajados, shrimp empanadas plus a sampler of juices such as coconut limeade, lulo, or passion fruit. Olga and I will take this opportunity to give a brief introduction about Colombia's rich and complicated relationship between food, culture, and identity.

Olga and I will take this opportunity to give a brief introduction about Colombia's rich and complicated relationship between food, culture, and identity.

We will then proceed to cook the main dish and the dessert for our dinner. Our menu is inspired in the rich culinary traditions of the Pacific Coast, a vast area mostly inhabited by indigenous groups and African descendants. While we teach you traditional cooking techniques, we will also discuss the rich gastronomic culture of the region as well as the connections between food, folklore and religion in areas such as Buenaventura and Tumaco, where we are originally from. We will also enjoy a cocktail made with traditional sugar cane derived spirits (arrechón or viche) and listen to music from the region, including curulao, chirimia, and bullerengue.

Sample Menu

• Pacífico Verde Salad (The Pacific is Green Salad) - A medley of exotic fruits (carambola, green mango and lulo) tossed with a dressing made with arazá juice, olive oil and homemade banana vinegar.
• Camarón, Jaiba and Pescado Mofongüitos - A trio of fried plantain baskets filled with shrimp in garlic sauce, fish curry with local herbs, and crab in coconut sauce.
• Purple Delight - Mini-muffins made with mora (Colombian blueberries) and topped with warm mora marmalade and ice cream.
