I’m Chitra from a traditional Sri Lankan family. Government certified and award winning cooking & baking teacher since 1989, awarded the Inspirational woman of the year award in 2011. I present you a unique culinary journey that will indulge you in a hands on Sri Lankan cuisine experience. The venue is easily accessible through the Colombo-Kandy highway, nestled in a tranquil area within Kandy city limits. Please refer my featured article on New York Times (Jan 30, 2019) under Frugal traveler “Sri Lanka, an Island Nation That Is Best Savored Slowly” By Lucas Peterson who enjoyed the Flavours of Sri Lanka cooking class booked as an abnb experience.

Itinerary Details

•To start the unique culinary experience, I will lead
you to my home garden where you can pick some
fresh vegetables, herbs & ingredients which will
then go into our mouthwatering Sri Lankan dishes.
• You will also get an introduction to curries, including
all ingredients and spices which we will be using, with
the secrets behind the traditional way of preparing
curry powder.
• We will also crack coconuts, scrape it and extract
coconut milk, an important ingredient in Sri Lankan
cuisine.
• You will get a hands on involvement with every step of
preparation.
• We can cook a typical Sri Lankan meal (rice with 5
curries) according to your dietary preference. All curries
will be cooked in traditional clay pots by using
homemade curry powder.
• I will also be sharing tips about Sri Lankan cooking you
will not easily find anywhere else.
• Once done, we can enjoy the cooked meal while over
some great conversation on history, culture & life style
of Sri Lankan people.
