On the way to Kakheti we will taste georgian traditional sweetness well known as Georgian Snikers. Churchkhela is a type of Georgian candy shaped like a sausage made from natural grape juice and different kinds of nuts. This candy is usually prepared during the harvest season in autumn for Christmas holidays. Churchkhela is extremely delicious and energizing. It is a well-known fact that Georgian soldiers used to consume them when they went to the battle.

Stop At: Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino, Signagi Georgia

Bodbe Monastery dedicated to Saint Nino is located at Bodbe, 2 km from the town of Sighnaghi, Kakheti. St. Nino is very important saint for Georgians, since she was the one who spread Christianity in our country in the 5th century. Last years of her life, she spent in Bodbe, that’s why Georgians buried St. Nino in this monastic complex.Nowadays, a lot of people come to see her tomb, as this place is very miraculous. I saw many people coming out from there with tears and I have heard many stories explaining how their wishes came true. This place keeps many secrets and stories. You will feel it already when you enter the beautiful garden which overlooks to Alazani Valley. Nuns, who live there, are taking care of it and they try to keep it as beautiful and green as it was during the life of St. Nino.

Stop At: Signagi City Walls, Signagi Georgia

Sighnaghi is a small town in the east of Georgia situated on the mountainside in the historical region of Kakheti. It was founded in the 17th century during the reign of King Erekle II of Georgia, and as locals say, it is the only city in Georgia that has fully preserved with fortification wall which is second biggest wall in the world. The great wall is crowned with 27 watchtowers and 6 gates where travelers can climb to get the magnificent view of the Alazani valley. New life of Sighnaghi started in 2007 when it changed into a European town. Its architecture with narrow cobbled streets and beautiful balconies will not leave you indifferent. The town has two central squares with wedding house where couple can marry anytime of the day. Thus, Sighnaghi is called the city of lover.You will find many cosy places, hotels and hostels to your taste, street cafes and restaurants, where you can try the home-made Kakhetian wines: Saperavi, Kindzmarauli, Rkaciteli, Mtsvane… There goes a long list.

After visiting The Great Wall of Sighnaghi we will have authentic lunch in local family restaurant, where we can enjoy by beautufull view of Allazani Valley.

Stop At: Shumi Winery, Village Tsinandali, Kakheti, Georgia, Tsinandali 2217 Georgia

This interesting smallish winery produces wines of numerous appellations under the Shumi and Iberiuli labels and has a vineyard of 432 vine varieties, along with a museum housing some astonishingly old wine-related objects. Founded in 2001, the Shumi winery is located in Tsinandali in Georgia’s largest wine region, Kakheti. The word “Shumi” means genuine, undiluted wine. The logo of the winery is a griffin (“Phaskunji” in Georgian mythology). Shumi can invite us in their own museum which preserves ancient vessels and monuments. Beside that they will share to our guests their organic wine. So it is place which you shouldn't miss if you are interested in history of wine.

Stop At: Numisi, Kvareli-Mukuzani, Velistsikhe 0199 Georgia

Numisi is a 16th century winery-museum run by a local family in Velitsikhe, Kakheti . The cellar is built in ancient classical architecture with white river stones and bricks. The cellar introduces excellent arched wine storage, with old limestone wine presser (Satsnakheli) & 33 clay pitchers (Qvevri) sunk underneath the ground, wine is so amazing and natural because of wine ageing and fermentation in Qvevri. Take a glance at the large collection of copper, glass, pottery, and timber vessels (mostly used for wine drinking), as well as the other items like woman jewelry, necklaces, rings, XVIII century wine copper kitchen utensils, old carpets and furniture- that’s why this place is also called Vine and Wine Numisi Cellar-Museum.

Here you’ll learn the Georgian method of wine-making and see all the instruments locals use.
