Unfortunately this was not a good experience for us. The rickshaw driver was excellent and looked after us very well but the ride itself (apart from some attractive reflections amongst the skyscrapers) was through a congested, busy and ugly residential area.

We had been expecting an authentic kaiseki meal and geisha experience and that our evening would take place in a peaceful natural teahouse type of environment. What we got was a concrete tower block. The service was friendly and the geisha was very warm and welcoming. Our interpreter was very efficient and shared a taxi ride back to the station at the end of our evening. We were thankful for that. However, it was a most disappointing evening and meal. We were asked when we booked to wear smart clothing and would have been prepared to do this but just before we left home we received an email (we still have it on record) that this was not necessary because they would provide Japanese clothing for us to wear over our clothes. Unfortunately, they did not and we felt very dishevelled and scruffy and totally unsuitable after a long day's sightseeing. The room was huge and one of us was sitting facing a row of coathangers on a rack. This may not seem much, but it was typical of how the atmosphere and ambiance were just not what they should have been. We had also expected more performances from the geisha. She probably only performed for about 10 minutes in total. A song, playing drums and a dance. No other musical instruments, which we had been really looking forward to seeing and hearing. She also used her mobile phone as a source of background music and it was a sort of geisha karaoke. As for the meal - yes, there were several very small courses, which we expected, but it really was not very good. It was the worst Japanese meal we had (and we ate Japanese food every day). We had far far better food on the Yakabatune evening dinner cruise. We cannot recommend this trip.
