Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: 1991 Barricades Museum, Kramu iela 3, Riga 1050 Latvia

We'll continue our tour in Old Riga where you'll see the former SMERSH / Soviet prison (from outside) and former Monument of Red Riflemen. During the tour you'll visit Museum of Barricades where you'll see a typical Communal flat kitchen how it used to look like in Soviet times, and experience yourself a small part of what it was like to be a freedom fighter in 1991.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Pārdaugava, Rīga, Latvia

Next we'll cross the River Daugava to see the leftovers of the Soviet regime, beautiful views of Riga's skyline and typical Soviet architecture.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Victory Park, Riga Latvia

The most remarkable monument of the Soviet regime is this one in the Victory (Uzvaras) park. During this tour we'll try to explain the complexity of the consequences of the World War 2 even nowadays. We'll also explain what Latvians think about "the victory" monument.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Torņakalna stacija, Zemgale Suburb, Riga, LV-1004, Latvia

This is a symbolic place to remember all deported Eastern Europeans which were brought in cattle cars to the labor camps in Siberia (Russia). Our guides often share personal stories from their families on how they did or did not survive the deportations.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Panorama Riga Observation Deck, Akademijas laukums 1 Latvian Academy of Sciences, Riga 1050 Latvia

We'll finish the tour with amazing views over spectacular Riga. During the Cold War, this Stalin's baroque was designed to exceed the size of the Empire State Building in New York, and you'll see it slightly resembles the shape of the famous USA landmark.
Please note! The landmark does not operate in freezing or windy weather. The tour will be slightly adjusted in the rare case if the platform is closed.

A very interesting and fascinating tour. I throughly enjoyed it. Our guide has very friendly, fun and was very knowledgeable. We saw things that we wouldn’t of known to look for (and also that we didn’t even know was there!) and told about the history behind it. We also took the train back to the centre which was cool. If you like history or keen to embrace heritage of the place your in/visiting then your love this

My husband and I were the only ones on the tour. The tour took us to areas of the city that we would never have been able to go on our own. First, we took the bus to the Corner House. From there, we crossed the bridge again, took the bus and saw some Soviet-era architecture. We later took the tram back to the city, and enjoyed the panoramic view from the Academy of Sciences this cost about 5 Euro and was not included in the tour price. The tour lasted about three hours total. What we enjoyed the most was the company of our informative and pleasant tour guide. She was very easy to talk to, and both my husband and I found ourselves asking her many questions not only about the Soviet era, but about Latvia and the Baltic countries in general. We had done the morning four-hour tour, but this heritage tour gives a glimpse of a different side of Riga.

A fantastic day seeing the sights of Riga. We booked this and the Best of Riga Walking Tour on the same day and our beautiful guide, Liga, combined the two into an incredible day of sighseeing and food tasting! Would highly recommend both tours!

This was a well informed tour of Latvia's history in the post war period. Our guide Liga took us to the important sites, the Freedom monument, the KGB building, the Soviet memorial, and t-to the bleak railway station where thousands of Latvians were deported to Siberia both in 1941 and then again in 1949. It was easy to imagine the utter despair as loved ones were transported east never to be seen again.
The tour cost included a taxi fare and a bus ride as some of the monuments were a distance away but our guide Liga paid for these. She also took us to the iconic Latvia Academy of Science building also known as Stalin's birthday cake for a view over the old city.
Finally we went for a drink in an old style Soviet cafe with prices to match - 3 drinks and a sandwich for less than 3!
The tour lasted well over 2 hours and was excellent value for money.

This tour was spectacular. My sister and I learned so much about Riga's and Latvia's history from a Riga native. She also shared a lot of her own experiences and perspectives, which I found to be enlightening and rewarding. I highly recommend this tour!
